Stakeholders Continue to Meet on Ban on Glass Bottles for Carnival
Port of Spain: The proposed ban on glass bottles for Carnival 2020 progressed positively today, January 03, 2020, as Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. heightened discussions with several key Carnival Stakeholders.
The meeting focused on a flexible enforcement approach as well as implementation considerations. All participants In the consultation process expressed their full support for the intended ban on glass bottles on Carnival Monday and Tuesday, agreeing that the thrust will create a safer and cleaner environment.
The intended ban on glass bottles is expected to take effect from 4:00 a.m. on Carnival Monday February 24, 2020 to 12:00 midnight on Carnival Tuesday February 25, 2020.
A public education drive on the collaborative initiative entitled “Clean Scene, Safe Scene” will be launched in the coming days.
Present at the meeting were Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security, Mr. Vel Lewis; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security Mrs. Dianne George-Thomas; Commissioner of Police Mr. Gary Griffith; representatives from the Trinidad and Tobago Carnival Bands Association (TTCBA); National Carnival .mmission (NCC); Trinidad and Tobago Solid Waste Management Company (SWMCOL); Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force; Trinidad and Tobago Police Service; Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service; Carnival Event Promoters; Beverage Manufacturing and Distribution Companies; and other stakeholders.
