Original Story below
Ok so controversy! Earlier this morning we reported that Republic Bank Exodus was going to change their tune from Rag Storm to Savannah Grass.
According to reporting from LoopTT today apparently Pan Trinbago’s President is indicating that they will meet at 2:00 pm to discuss if Republic Bank Exodus can change their song.
There has been precedent set in 1972 by Solo Harmonites as stated by When Steel Talks. Solo Harmonites changed their song in the Semi-Finals after the Prelims.
The rules listed on Pan Trinbago’s Site indicates
6. MUSIC:
6.1 Music Selection – For the purposes of the competition, each participating steelband may select and perform any Calypso/Soca or Chutney, providing that:
a) the selection has not been played by said steelband at a previous Panorama Competition.
6.2 Failure to Comply with Music Selection – Any steelband which selects a tune for the competition that fails to comply with clause 6.1 hereof shall be disqualified from the competition.
6.3 TAKE NOTE THAT AS OF 2019, CONVENTIONAL STEELBANDS MUST PLAY A MUSICAL SELECTION FROM THE YEAR 2008 TO PRESENT.
Nothing is specifically stated that the tune cannot change only the phrase
“selects a tune for the competition”
in section 6.2 points to the fact that only one tune can be chosen for the competition.
The President of Pan Trinbago did indicate that since it does not specifically state if the tune can be changed that they will decide this afternoon at a special 2:00 pm meeting.
We wait to hear of the final decision.
